Soulfly was formed by singer/guitarist/songwriter Max Cavalera known as an ex-member of Sepultura (the band was formed in 1996 as the singer wanted to make a career of his own). The new group comprised such musicians as Roy "Rata" Mayorga (drummer), Jackson Bandeira (the second guitarist) and Marcello D. Rapp (bassist).
